Questions
How do I become a tattoo artist?
Most tattooists learn through an apprenticeship at a studio: hygiene and safety first, then drawing, machine and needle theory, practice on skin substitute and finally supervised tattoos. Studios on Tatspire list their open places here.
Do I need a portfolio?
Yes, most studios want to see your drawings. Add a link in your application — published designs on your Tatspire profile are shown to the studio automatically.
Is an apprenticeship paid?
It depends on the studio: paid, a stipend, unpaid or to be agreed. Each position states it. The training contract is between you and the studio.
Where can I apply?
Only inside Tatspire: open the app or the web app, go to Profile → Apprenticeships and apply to a position. You can follow your application and, once you train, your milestones there.
